Of course it had to be announced at Cannes – “WPP Buys Majority Stake In AKQA”. To say that WPP has stunned the advertising world by this acquisition is a bit of journalist hyperbole. It has been reported by TechCrunch, Financial Times and Campaign and it even has become a trending article in The Guardian. Many of us expected it was just a matter of time and money. It was going to happen. But we thought it would be a least a couple of years away.
